Grammy Award Make-Up Artist Joins Gluten-Free Team

Mara Rouse has a history of exceptional credits to her resume to add another jam packed filled week of applying make-up for the celebrity pre-parties to the Grammys as well as the Grammys this year, 2010. Mara Rouse is now the make-up artist for any parties or shoots we do while in I am in Los Angeles. I wish she could travel with me all over for all the videos and filming.

Mara specializes in Special Effects but loves it all. If it involves applying make-up she has interest. Mara moved here from Washington state to pursue her career working and apprenticing with Top people in the business. See her site below! Hard work and perseverence got her to where she is now and we are very proud to have her as part of our LA team.

While in LA there are many times we need a little make-up done on the kids or me ( not Danny of course), to look just a bit better on a video or film shoot with the lighting. She has helped in the past and she has officially signed on as part of our LA “team”, unless something more important comes up- like the Grammys.

She is also an avid cook and known for her delicious meals. She will be assisiting my LA team in taste-testing and cooking the gluten-free products as her time permits to help me with the Reviews I do.

She is available for hire. http://www.myspace.com/maramakeup

Thank you Mara!

Tina’s Gluten-Free Cupcake Party Sponsored by Pamela’s Products

We had SO much fun baking to our hearts content, decorating with our imaginations soaring, eating Pamela’s Products and enjoying one another’s company.

I am honored and grateful be able to have incredibly delicious ingredients and fun give-aways for my parties, all from Pamela’s Products as well as Nature’s Food Patches LOADED gift bags , once again.

If anyone is interested in helping to spread the word about making the AWARENESS of celiac much more broadly known, as it should be, please e-mail me and I will share how to bring this about in your area.

We need everyone’s help and support! We need to unite and share each and everyone’s special skills and interests in this area. The profits from this party were all donated to National Foundation for Celiac Awareness.

Thank you, Tina Turbin

Incredibly Story – A Mother’s Journey in Raising Celiac Triplets

Fowler kids

In addition to sharing the story of the Fowler family and their journey through all things gluten-free and celiac, I’d like to also announce that all 4 children including Tyler (7 yrs), Parker, Isabell and Peyton (4 yr old triplets), pictured above in their Halloween costumes, were the winners of the October Danny the Dragon contest as part of the Danny the Dragon Gluten-Free “Halloween” cupcake party which I hosted in Florida.

The kids received a Danny the Dragon gift basket loaded with goodies and Danny the Dragon give-aways!

Fowler family story:

Our Celiac Disease Journey started in May of 2007, the triplets were about to turn two and I was questioning the doctor about their small stature. Like most, the belief was that there were 3 of them, so it might just be their size, but at their two year check up we would run more tests if they had not gained any weight.  No surprise, their two year check up came and the girls had failed to put on ANY weight in the 6 month period prior to their checkup.

At that point, we decided to see the Pediatric GI here in St. Pete, FL who immediately thought Celiac or Cystic Fibrosis. He was pretty optimistic and we were sent home wishing for an auto immune disease.  Being a mom with Rheumatoid Arthritis, Auto-immune hepatitis and Thyroid Disease (all auto immune diseases), I only began to worry about what the girls health would look like in the future. Not a promising outlook but the Celiac diagnosis was manageable and that is what we were hoping for.

Halloween 2007 we spent the majority of the day screening at All Childrens Hospital for Celiac and Cycstic Fibrosis. The girls were poked, and encouraged to sweat for their tests, so we walked the halls of All Childrens prompting them with Candy corn.

Long story short, the results were Celiac Disease and after their biopsy’s we learned their small intestines had been effected and they were no longer absorbing the nutrients they needed to grow.  AHHHHHHHHHHH at last a diagnosis, now to change the diet.

My husband and I left the hospital that day and went straight to the health food store in St. Pete and began our Gluten Free lifestyle.  We also have a 7 yr old soon (5 at time of diagnosis) and another son (the 3rd triplet), both who do not have Celiac, so we knew we were in for a big change.

The transition went better than expected and within 6 months the girls blood levels had balanced off and were within normal range.  We finally saw the weight gain, and they were beginning to look like big kids, instead of a year or two younger than they actually were.

The girls are now getting close to being on the growth charts, and are showing signs of growth all around. We still hear that they are small because they were multiples but at least now we know it is not their diets causing it. Overall you can see they are eating more of what they like and just feeling better.

It is a big adjustment to make, but it is manageable and with the right attitude and support you can fine tune the diet so that no child is left out or feels “different” because of what they eat. My girls are sure to ask at every outing, “is it gluten free?”, and that alone puts a smile on my face.  Ms. Fowler

Sesame Street – Taking Care of Nature

I noticed that Sesame Street is celebrating it’s 40th anniversary by encouraging an environmentally-friendly theme for it’s upcoming TV shows.  With such live stage shows as “Elmo’s Green Thumb”, a major promotional campaign and TV show themes to instill in children a love and appreciation of nature, many of you parents will be pleased to know that it looks like the show is going in the right direction.

It was such a pleasure to have been able to participate (and announce my cause of raising celiac awareness) alongside the Sesame Street Halloween concert in Pasadena.  For those of you who didn’t have a chance to read up on this wonderful event, please click the above link.

Today is the 40th Anniversary of Sesame Street!

Friends, as many of you know, in addition to being a staunch supporter of the cause of raising celiac awareness, I’m also a children’s author.  With that, it is only fitting that I take a moment to mention Sesame Street.

sesame_street_friends

It’s hard to believe that Sesame Street has really been around for 40 years!  There aren’t very many children’s brands/themes that are able to withstand the progression of the generations, but looks like Sesame Street has indeed passed the test.

It was fitting that the highly praised Sesame Street Halloween Concert, which I had the pleasure of participating in, (see blog entry from 10/27/09) nearly coincided with this special anniversary. Better yet, I had the opportunity to announce my cause to the 2,000 people in attendance!

Enjoy your day and don’t forget to take a moment to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Sesame Street!

Resounding Success at the Sesame Street Halloween Concert!

Between the terrific press coverage and the wonderful turnout and the lovely musical performance, the Sesame Street Halloween Concert at Pasadena City College was a resounding success! (Please see blog entry from 10/27/09 for full details about the Concert).

View a sample of our press coverage here at one of the many news sites that covered the event.

I’m so thankful to have been able to participate in such a fine event and performance.

More news to come about our upcoming projects for our Danny the Dragon DREAMS CD (audio version of my children’s book, profits of which are donated generously to Dr. Peter Green’s Celiac Disease Center at Columbia University Medical Center), as we are gearing up to launch an exciting promotional campaign.
